Welcome to South Shore Animal Hospital, located at 4258 W. Houghton Lake Drive on the south shore of Houghton Lake. South Shore Animal Hospital has served the community since 1978.   • Dr. Brian J. Dawson

    Dr. Brian J Dawson started his college career at Kirtland Community College, where he carried a 4.0 grade point average. He went on to graduate, with Honors, from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science where he majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry, in 1996. He concluded his college career at Michigan State University in 2000 with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

    Dr. Dawson is a member of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, as well as, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He also volunteers for Great Dane Rescue Inc. of Michigan. He enjoys playing piano and guitar, motorcycling, and target shooting.

    His four legged, fuzzy family includes; 2 Great Danes - Daisy and Horton, 3 cats – Elwood a domestic medium hair, Emma a Siamese, and Samwise Gamgee a domestic shorthair, a Shar-Triever - Flower, and a Shar Pei mix - Varuca Salt.

  • Dr. David Hock

    Dr. David Hock is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and has over 33 years of experience. He regularly attends continuing education conferences for the latest education, information, technologies and techniques available in the small animal practice to provide you with the very best care for your pet.  

    He has served for 8 years as a delegate on the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association Board of directors and is currently president of the North Eastern V.M.A

    Included in the Hock family are their cats; Cooter, a grey & white; two calico cats-Twitch & Cali, and two dogs; Razz a miniature long-haired Dachshund and the newest and youngest addition to the family is Piper a German Shorthair Pointer .

  • Dr. Mary Jane Hock

    Dr. Mary Jane Hock is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and has over 33 years of experience. She regularly attends continuing education conferences for the latest education, information, technologies and techniques available in the small animal practice to provide you with the very best care for your pet.  

    Included in the Hock family are their cats; Cooter, a grey & white; two calico cats-Twitch & Cali, and two dogs; Razz a miniature long-haired Dachshund and the newest and youngest addition to the family is Piper a German Shorthair Pointer .

  • Jennie, Licensed Veterinary Technician

    Jennie has been involved with practice management at South Shore since 1999. In additional to being a Licensed Veterinary Technician, Jennie is the Human Resources Manager and handles payroll, employee scheduling and other employee issues.

    Jennie's family includes a Rottweiler Mix named "Duke", a Jack-Russell named "Taz", a Calico cat named "Lizzie", "Dozer" the Log Dog, and "Skoal" a grey cat.

  • Colleen, Licensed Veterinary Technician

    Colleen, our Licensed Veterinary Technologist since June of 2008, is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology. Colleen is responsible for obtaining patient histories, doing blood draws, providing nursing care for hospitalized pets, administering anesthesia, performing dental cleanings, and she also has many laboratory skills.

    Her family includes a black cat, Whisper, a white & tiger cat named Broker, a Husky named Angel, and a Husky/Lab mix named Pluto.

  • Rosemary, Assistant Technician

    Rosemary is one of our Veterinary Assistants. Rosemary has over ten years with South Shore Animal Hospital.

    Rosemary specializes in behavioral modification. Call us for a current schedule of upcoming classes.

    Along with taking care of our furry boarders, she assists with dentistries, helps the technicians and the doctors in surgeries, treatments, and maintaining the sterile environment at South Shore Animal Hospital.

    New to her family is Reggie a Miniature Schnauzer.

  • Barb, Client Care Specialist

    Barb joined the South Shore Animal Hospital team in August of 2011. She brings with her lots of experience working in customer service. Barb makes appointments processes payments, refills medication, gives hugs when necessary and also listens to clients comments or concerns. The front office staff thrives to make our clients and their pets visit with us an enjoyable and informative one.

    Barb's family includes two dogs; Dozer-A Pit/American Bull Dog mix and Digger - a Boxer .

  • Art, Kennel and Building Maintenance

    Art has been at South Shore Animal Hospital since 1999.  Art has three dogs; including Delilah a Pit Bull, Kena a Pit Bull mix, and Sissy a Labrador Retriever mix.

    After hours, our kennel team ensures post-surgical patients and boarders are walked, watered and cared for. Like all of the health care team at South Shore Animal Hospital, Art loves animals and is compassionate and caring with our patients.

    South Shore Animal Hospital's building and grounds are maintained well by these two professionals.
  • Jerry, Kennel and Building Maintenance

    Jerry has been with South Shore Animal Hospital since 2002. Jerry has a Chihuahua mix named Shivers, and a grey & white cat named Little Bit.

    After hours, our kennel team ensures post-surgical patients and boarders are walked, watered and cared for. Like all of the health care team at South Shore Animal Hospital, Jerry loves animals and is compassionate and caring with our patients.
